Below is a collection of my best required and supplemental resources--what I use on a regular basis to advanced my nursing practice. Click on the photo for a purchase link.
Advanced practice Resources
This is the pharmacology book that I utilize in my graduate program at this time. It's incredibly thorough, but be prepared, it steers towards prescribing. Do not expect numerous information regarding inpatient medication treatments, as it's written for prescribers, such as in the primary care setting.
This is one of the best resources I've ever purchased. Released in late 2017, this book outlines U.S. and international guidelines for treatment.
I thought I would hate this text, but it's been an absolute pleasure to read. Not for the faint of heart. Heavy in content regarding nursing history, theories, conceptual models, and everything in between. However. I believe it's an essential for any future advanced practice individual.
By some miracle, I found this book significantly discounted one day ($20!), and bought it. Mental health may be one of our weakest areas, so consider adding this to your arsenal. It's pure magic.
Undergraduate Nursing resources
This is a must-buy for anyone considering nursing. It reviews a basic history of nursing as well as its foundations: medication administration, common terms, procedures, skills. I purchased the eighth edition prior to this release.
Although this was one of my undergraduate textbooks, I still refer to this pharmacology book all the time in my graduate studies, because it's that thorough and that well-written. A newer edition of this book is also available.
Fantastic information regarding pathophysiology of disease processes. I purchased the fourth edition prior to this release.
Incredibly thorough with superb photos. I even purchased the pocket book for my graduate program as well. I purchased the sixth edition prior to this release.
There is a newer edition of this book available, but this is the one I own and it is truly a fantastic resource as an introduction to numerous mental health diagnoses.
Another go-to from Mosby. A newer edition of this text is available.
This is a go-to guide for any undergrad nursing student. Inexpensive and so easy to use. I purchased the tenth edition prior to this release.
This is another must-have for any nursing (indeed, any college-age) student. I refer to this all the time.
When I had to memorize anatomy, this is all I would do. Very detailed and very helpful for memorization.
Partner to the anatomy coloring book, this book is also very detailed and incredibly informative. Very helpful!
